A letter to J K Rowling

Dear J K Rowling,

Once my school teacher asked us to draw an alien. We could draw whatever we wanted as per our imaginations. After everybody drew, she told me that how much ever “alien” we try to make the alien, it would look like us or other animals in the earth. It would have an “eye”, “ear”, etc. We might just shuffle them around and color it different. It is difficult to imagine and create new things.

But you created a whole world of magic. And you made it so perfectly. This means that it is not fiction. No one can write about some non-existent world so perfectly. I used to believe when I was a kid that I would receive the letter one day and I would go to Hogwarts. I did not. Maybe I am just another Muggle. But that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist. I still believe. Also, just like you advised us through your book, “It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live”. So, I did let go of the dream to go to Hogwarts, but I still believe it exists…

I want to thank you for sharing this world of magic with us. You are right to keep it a secret from us Muggles, because yeah, once people know about it, everybody would want it. But the magic you created would always be in our minds…

With love,
A Muggle who believes in your Magic

Getting over

What is the best way to get over some sad phase (like a breakup or death)? Is it thinking more about the issue and venting it out till it gets out of your system? Or is it avoiding the situation and keeping yourself busy?

Why do a particular happiness go away fast, but a particular sadness stays for long? Or am I wrong?

Time gives solutions

In a tamil song, there is a line “aaha motham avasarakolam, avaluku ithai kaatidum kaalam”. It roughly translates to “she is in lot of haste, but time will show her the truth”.

We always try to live in the present. That’s how we have been taught. But, time tells everything. We underestimate the value of this. We think we need to take all decisions now itself. But time will clear the confusions you have. It will help you decide by keeping your emotions in place. Your decision will not be impulsive.

I think sometimes, it is better to not decide now and leave it for the future.

OCD with cleanliness?

There was a dialogue in the movie “Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna” when the character of Abhishek Bachchan tells his wife (who is obsessed with cleaning) who had an affair with another guy that “You kept cleaning every corner of this house and today you have the most filthiness in you itself”.

So, on this world cleanup day, I just got a thought…

Are people obsessed with cleanliness those people who feel that they themselves are not clean enough (mentally, not physically) and they clean themselves physically and their surroundings to feel better about the wrong things they felt they did?
